Czechs honor 3rd Havel’s death anniversary

Václav Havel - a writer, philosopher, dissident during former communist regime and the very first democratically elected president - died exactly three years ago on 18th of December 2011. Today Czechs honor 3rd anniversary of his death.

Thousands gather at the Prague’s Wenceslas square, Havel family’s tomb and his former residence to light a candle in his honor.

People placed and lit candles in a shape of heart, along with Havel’s initials, in the middle of Wenceslas square to remind themself and others of his legacy and everything he stood and fought for.
