Artist Adolf Born dies aged 85

The Czech artist who has been known for his contribution as a children's illustrator has passed away in Prague Sunday morning. His daughter Erika Bornova informed.

Born was known for his typical and humorous characters and grotesque worldview. He illustrated hundreds of books, designed theater sets and costumes and participated on about 60 movies. His most famous work was an animated series called Mach a Sebestova – also known as Max and Sally – a story which follows adventures of two pupils and a torn off telephone receiver.

In 1974, Born was declared cartoonist of the year in Montreal. Later in 2008, he was also a finalist for the biennial, international Hans Christian Andersen Award. His works have been exhibited all over the world.

He died on 22nd of May 2016 in his home surrounded by the closest family.
