Battle of Austerlitz reenacted in freezing weather

Even though the weather was cold and almost freezing, history lovers still went out and put on Russian and French uniforms from the early nineteenth century and reconstructed the famous battle of Austerlitz.

Slavkov u Brna – The battle of Austerlitz occurred on December 2nd, in the year 1809. On a field near a village Slavkov clashed the French army, led by Napoleon and the Russian army, representing the third coalition, led by tsar Alexander the first. The battle with little over twenty thousand casualties resulted in Napoleons victory.

Over the past twenty-four years, thousands came to watch the reconstruction, as even women and children take part as drummers or flag bearers. Total of nine thousand visitors from Germany, Austria, Hungary and Czech and Slovak republic, reflect the quality of the reconstruction.
