Czech chief-of-staff elected chairman of NATO Military Committee

One of the current highest military authority in NATO, Danish general Knud Bartels, is going to retire and his successor, elected in Vilnius Latvia, is Czech general Petr Pavel.

Pavel is known for operation UNPROFOR in Croatia during the nineties. After a successful rescue mission of French soldiers, caught between two fighting sides, he received one of the most prestigious Czech and French honors – Legion of Honour and medal for heroism.
