Fire burns through warehouse in Prague, causes €10 million damage

Ground and helicopter crews fought a fire raging through a warehouse in Prague's Vysocany industrial district. The fire was knocked down Sunday morning. No serious injuries were reported.

A fire ignited at a Prague warehouse filled with clothing shortly after 19:00 Saturday evening. Twenty ground crews from Prague city area and a helicopter responded to the scene soon after the first call. It took approximately 10 hours for 90 firefighters to extinguish the blaze. A massive smoke plume was seen dozens of kilometers away.

According to the first estimates, inventory worth €10 million was burned in the fire. Damages on the property have not been reviewed yet.

The surrounding area including part of Vysocanska Street was closed for through traffic entire night. Police were advising residents living nearby to close their windows and remain inside their properties.

Fire officials said the fire was eventually placed under control. As of 15:00 Sunday afternoon, only two fire crews remained on the scene, monitoring the situation because the threat was remaining high.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and is subjected to an investigation.
