Glider pilot parachutes to safety after mid-air collision

A man cheated death by bailing out of his own aircraft after two gliders collided above Jablonná, a small town in the Central Bohemian Region. Pilot of the second glider was able to land safely on an airstrip in Zbraslavice.

The collision between two motorless aircrafts took place Sunday afternoon. The lucky pilot leapt from his aircraft and parachuted to safety as his glider kept falling out of the sky and crash-landed in an area covered chiefly with trees and undergrowth. The parachuted pilot came down safely in an open land. According to Petra Effenbergerová, spokeswoman for Emergency Medical Services, he was later transported to the hospital in Příbram with minor injuries which he sustained while exiting the aircraft.

Circumstances of the accident are currently under review by Civil Aviation Authority.
