Karel Gott diagnosed with cancer

Czech schlager singer Karel Gott, who underwent abdominal surgery last week, has been reportedly diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. Gott is undergoing cancer treatment in General University Hospital in Prague, his wife Ivana confirmed Monday night.

The 76-year-old singer of hits like “Maya the Bee” or “Around the world” has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma during abdominal surgery, which he underwent last week. He was transported from Institute for Clinical and Experimental Medicine to Department of Haematology at General University Hospital in Prague, where he is currently being taken cared of.

All scheduled concert with an appearance of Gott had been cancelled until further notice.

“He [Karel] sends you his greetings. He bravely fights because he does not want to let you down. Other families made it through, we can too,” Gott’s wife Ivana Gotova shared on her husband’s official facebook page.

The treatment of the so-called Hodgkin lymphoma is usually very successful and many people are cured.
