Man struck, killed while crossing freeway to ask for directions

A foreign man was struck and killed by a passing vehicle while trying to cross the D1 motorway to ask for directions. Incident occurred in the South Moravian Region near a town of Slavkov u Brna Saturday night, police say.

According to police, a 60-years-old foreign national man was passing through the Czech Republic on his way to a family vacation.

When he found himself to be unsure about what turn to take next, the man decided to pull over on a shoulder and cross the freeway to ask for directions.

Later, when attempting to cross the motorway, he was struck by a passing Mazda.

Even though witnesses of the incident responded shortly to provide first aid, he was pronounced dead after an arrival of Emergency services.

A police investigation is currently underway.
