Police boat hits, kills swimmer in western Bohemia

A swimmer has been struck and killed by a police patrol boat on Jesenice dam near Cheb, a town of approximately 30 000 in the Karlovy Vary Region, on Saturday. The accident is being investigated by General Inspection of Security Forces.

An accident involving a police boat and a swimmer occurred Saturday night during a police patrol. According to Pavel Valenta, regional spokesman for Czech police, powerboat hit a man swimming in the Jesenice dam water reservoir.

Even thought the boat crew performed rescue efforts promptly, the swimmer died from injuries sustained in the crash.

General Inspection of Security Forces has launched an investigation.
