Rarest Czechoslovak Postage Stamp Sold For €372,000

The rarest Czechoslovak stamp has been sold in an auction for a record price of 9.3 million Czech crowns. On top of that, the highest bidder is required to pay commission to the auction house.

The four-crown green postage stamp with a reversed overprint from 1919 was sold at a Burda Auction’s public auction number 56, held in Prague over this weekend.

The auction house had high hopes for the piece prior the auction. They claimed the specimen to be flawless and the only one of its kind. According to the auction catalogue, the value of the lot was appraised at 5 million crowns, just a million over the auction’s starting bid.
