Embankment Collapse Under Busy Train Tracks

A rail service disruption caused by an embankment collapse was reported on a train route 140 between Chomutov and Cheb in the western part of the country.

The collapse occurred on an electrified double-track railway route 140 between Hajek and Dalovice – two towns situated in western Bohemia near Karlovy Vary. The entire route connects cities Chomutov and Cheb.

A possible accident was avoided by a track maintenance supervisor who ordered service on the entire rail segment to be shut down before the embankment collapse happened.

As both tracks are closed down for passing trains, a rail replacement bus service is currently in place. The Czech Railway Infrastructure Administration gave no estimated time for their reopening.
