The famous American fast-food chain, Five Guys, known for its burgers, fries, and milkshakes, is set to open its first outlet in Prague next year. This move comes after the acquisition of FG Central Group by Monterock International, an investment holding focusing on real estate, hospitality, and gastronomy. FG Central Group previously held the franchise rights for Five Guys in Central and Eastern Europe.

The Expansion into Prague

Monterock International’s acquisition includes the rights to operate and develop Five Guys restaurants in Austria, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. Petros Stathis, the head of Monterock, confirmed on LinkedIn that Prague is one of the main destinations they are targeting. He announced, “Prepare for a spicy year 2024, as we open new branches in Austria and start our premiere in Prague! By 2028, the iconic red-and-white decor and the Five Guys restaurant experience will expand throughout Central and Eastern Europe.”

Location and Expectations

While the exact opening date and location in Prague are not yet disclosed, there are speculations that the first Five Guys restaurant might be located in the Máj Shopping Center on Národní Street, which is currently undergoing extensive renovation. The completion of the renovation is expected in the second or third quarter of next year, aligning with the potential opening period of Five Guys.

The Five Guys Phenomenon

Five Guys stands out in the fast-food industry for its straightforward menu focusing primarily on burgers, fries, and milkshakes with various, often unconventional, flavors. Founded in 1986 in Arlington, Washington, by the Murrell family, the chain has expanded globally with over 1,800 branches. The brand gained popularity for its quality and was even reportedly favored by former U.S. President Barack Obama.

The arrival of Five Guys in Prague marks a significant development in the Czech fast-food market, bringing a new player known for its quality and unique offerings. As Prague anticipates the opening of Five Guys, it remains to be seen how the brand will adapt its pricing and offerings to the local market and how it will compete with existing fast-food chains.
