Designblok 2023: Celebrating 25 Years of Design Excellence in Prague

The 25th edition of Designblok, Prague’s premier design and fashion event, kicked off at various iconic venues, including the Trade Fair Palace, the Museum of Decorative Arts, and Prague Castle. This year’s central theme revolves around “travel,” showcasing the best of contemporary Czech and international designs, fashion, and jewelry. The event will be held until October 8, with two special exhibitions at Prague Castle extending until October 15.

A total of 227 artists and brands have come together for this edition, offering a diverse range of workshops, lectures, fashion shows, thematic exhibitions, and sustainable projects. The Designblok is segmented into two main sections:

  • Superstudio: This space is dedicated to exhibitions from companies, manufacturers, and shops. It highlights the latest creations from both Czech and international manufacturers, especially in furniture, lighting, and home accessories. These products are often the result of collaborations with top designers.
  • Openstudio: Serving as a platform for individual designers, design studios, students, and educational institutions, Openstudio is a contemporary design lab. It primarily showcases prototypes and limited-edition productions without the involvement of commercial manufacturers.

One of the standout features of this year’s Designblok is the “Designblok Cosmos” exhibition located in the Royal Garden at Prague Castle. This exhibition offers a unique experience within a mirrored room filled with glass artifacts crafted by numerous Czech designers. Termed as a “showcase of contemporary Czech design,” this mobile gallery will make its international debut at the Milano Design Week in April 2024.
