Pyrum Innovations, a German pyrolysis technology company, has announced plans to collaborate with a Czech energy group to construct a pyrolysis plant for end-of-life tyres (ELTs) in the Czech Republic. The company has signed an engineering and consulting contract with a subsidiary of its Czech partner, allowing them to carry out preparatory work for the plant’s construction approval and the submission of a planning permit application.

The new plant, to be located near the German border in the Czech Republic, is expected to process up to 20,000 tonnes of scrap tyres per year and is scheduled to commence operations in 2025. The pyrolysis gas produced at the facility will be used to generate energy in the gas turbine of a power plant operated on the same site by the Czech JV partner. Pyrum’s partner is active in the field of energy and environmental services.

Pyrum CEO Pascal Klein emphasized that the decision to use existing infrastructure for the new tyre recycling plant aligns with Pyrum’s commitment to sustainability. The plant will be built and operated by a future joint venture, with Pyrum expected to hold a 30 percent share. Pyrum is responsible for the basic engineering work and preparing parts of the approval documents for the new plant. The recycling capacity could potentially be doubled by 2027, given the space available at the new site.

This Czech facility will be Pyrum’s fifth concrete ELT pyrolysis project to advance this far in the planning stages, including the pyrolysis plant at its headquarters in Dillingen, a plant being built as part of the Revalit JV, and plants in development with Suez Recycling and Recovery in the UK and Thermo Lysi in Greece.
